Rumors are Booches in Columbia MO - 10-22-2020, 08:34 AM

in business since 1884 - not a typo - is in danger of closing due to covid restrictions. Booches is located near the University of Missouri and they make 90% of their money on food. Great place to go if you want to run a few racks of 14.1 with ancient Balke Collender 9 foot tables with big pockets.

I'd love it if someone would debunk the rumor but that would be a shame. Health director and mayor here have enacted the strictest rules in this area and a lot of business are suffering.

Vote them out - 10-27-2020, 01:11 PM

Any politician that is imposing restrictions that are causing mom and pop operations to go under need to be voted out as soon as possible. I am not sure if the city ordinances and election laws allow for a recall or some sort of legal ousting or emergency election but you may want to push to start the process if such exists. Otherwise, push to vote them out as soon as their term is up. That is the only way to put a stop to this behavior is to remove them from power and make it well known as to why they are being voted out or removed. The prolonged and repeated occupancy restrictions placed on bars and restaurants and other businesses is a death sentence for a lot of independently owned establishments. The only thing they understand is power and money. Remove them from power and they learn the lesson. Hit them in the pocketbook, and they learn the lesson. The mainstream media is trying like hell to push a narrative around increased COVID numbers. It is fear porn and trying to put Trump in a bad light. Plus, they are trying to use it to distract from the Biden family scandal that is being uncovered and scare people into not voting in-person. If that doesn't work....they will start more riots like what is going on in Philly right now. All of this bullshit is about the election. The stakes are too high for everyone involved. I am out playing pool in tournaments and going out to eat. I am out shopping. I am looking to plan a business trip in Nov/Dec out to NJ and I am open to traveling for visiting family in Florida and elsewhere. I plan to attend the DCC should they have it. What started as 14 days to slow the spread has turned into a power play by the left. Enough is enough already.

"You couldn't pay somebody to find somebody that knew somebody that can beat me....."

"Yeah, I would have shot it EXACTLY the same way...only different"

"Yeah, that's a good shot...good for me!"

Recurring theme daily. Damn shame it's over politics. Not just pool halls, but this IS a pool forum.

The local politicians are getting scrod too.

Pressured to act quickly, then left to keep acting on March data when it is nearly november.

So keep your nose clean keep it on a shoe string

Nothing empty nothing bold or over knowing
Nothing more than tasteful reconstruction
Of the plot that edifies all our instructions
It's on the goodness of our dime that you can function

I glanced through the city's Business Guidance documentation and didn't see anything more restrictive than anywhere else. How are the restrictions on-the-ground more severe? Is it like some cities where pool is considered blacklisted?

Hopefully the pool hall survives. It would be a shame to lose so much heritage.

CoMO is more restrictive than the surrounding area which is smaller, more rural cities and towns.

For example limits on gatherings and number of people allowed in a business and mask ordinance etc. I jog daily in a park near my house and you can only jog in one direction in the park due to covid.

CoMO school graduations were held in neighboring towns because of restrictions in place in CoMO. This is a college town and as with most college towns the politics are very liberal. The surrounding area is conservative rural. Think Massachusetts in the middle of Alabama.

Univ. of Wisc is same way. Wisconsin is a fairly conserv. state with pockets of 'progs' mainly in Madison. They call it the 'Berkeley of the Midwest' for a reason. Columbia is much the same. I feel sorry for anyone going thru these brutal shutdowns.

Amazing place, been there dozens of times.
Rare, wonderful sensation. And also, one of the best burgers in the USA per USA Today.
The tables were bought new by Booche’s ca1919, right after World War 1.
There is a wonderful huge Brunswick back bar in front as you enter.
Tons of original cues on Antique wall racks with small padlocks, like the old days.
The bar stools have brass nameplates for regulars who have passed on, attached to their favorite stools.
A billiard table in front, the way many early poolrooms were configured.
If you are within a drive to Columbia, Mo, I highly recommend.
Memorable.
Here’s a glimpse.
