Would you buy a cue with snakewood in it? - 09-20-2020, 10:12 AM

Or, would you be afraid the cue would crack?

It needs to be stabilized.

I had a really nice laminated snake wood cue. Stunning and it didn't crack

Maybe.

I sure wouldn't dismiss the perfect cue on account of snakewood.

Stabilized snakewood - if it's cored I think it's fine.

I saw a Porper fancy magic wand made out of a solid piece of stabilized snakewood. A guy dropped it and it shattered like a piece of glass. It sure was a beautiful piece of wood though.

Nice photography gentlemen!

I've read, "it's not if, but when snakewood will crack". Do modern methods make that statement untrue?

I think that the combination of ebony, ivory, silver and snakewood is one of the nicest combinations that can be designed for a cue- here is a Troy Downey cue from his Gabe Owen series back about 15years ago - I believe. Ebony nose- snakewood points and butt sleeve- all ivory and silver inlays- a stunning cue that plays as well as it looks- no evidence of any cracking- it is still mint!

Too expensive of wood for the risk of cracking. It’s my favorite looking though.

Here's a beauty from Eddie Cohen

The pictures are from his website here:

https://cohencues.com/portfolio-item...od-window-cue/

That cue has a lot of snakewood in it. I wonder if that cue has cracked.
