Hi everyone. Im looking at improving my game. Ive been playing with house cues for years, and would like to have my own cue. I'd like to try an inexpensive stick for starters ~$100 +/- $20.


I was thinking about getting the players htx30 or htx60. Is there any reason I should not, or any other cues I should consider?

I am thinking about getting the htx30 and either of the customizable options (shaft turndown or tip upgrade) to put me ~$100. What do you guys think?

Im looking for something that will be consistent.
Is that anti deflection tech rubbish?
Should I opt for a shaft turndown?
What tip?

I suggest taking a look at a Dale Perry Cue. DP Cues
They can be found on ebay. They can be had for between $100 to $150.
Nice quality cue for the money.

Also, there are a few great deals if you know where to look.

Koinnkid on ebay and here has incredible deals every now and again, as does Duc Lam (cuemaster98).

I'd recommend a McDermott M91D for about $135. No need to upgrade anything. Made in USA and best customer service in the business. I love the shaft taper, Irish linen wrap, and the triangle tip gives me better control than anything else I've used.

I have more expensive cues, but this is my player.

Never used a Players cue, but I've read good reviews.

I think you'd be quite happy with a players cue their pretty nice and come with a lifetime warranty. They used to be made in Michigan, but I doubt if they still are. Also look at Adams cues they're pretty nice for the price, sneaky pete only $60. Just my $.02

Don't buy a 100$ cue... trust me..

a year ago i'm also a new on pool game. I try to buy some cheap cue for playing and i end up to sell it with lost offcourse and up grade to a 450$ Jeff Olney cue and i'm a happy person now.

There is an ideal price of a good cue and from my opinion an ideal price of a good cue is around 350-600$. You pay more than that is useless because you just buy a fancy one with the same playability. You pay less than that is not good either because you can not get a good playability cue less than that price. But it is only my personal opinion...

for around a $100. hmm.
i would get my fave house cue from my local pool room. give the owner like 10-20 bucks for it.
then take the one peace cue to any cue builder worth his salt and ask him the "sneaky" it up. id say for around $150 you may even get the cue builder to slick up the shaft a little and put a better tip and ferrule on it.
I do not think that would want to sign the cue lol but most cue builders i have came across dont mind a lil house cue work from time to time.

How about a Huebler sneeky pete?
No flash at all...but excellent playability. This cue was taken in trade with its original shaft warped. I just couldn't let it die so I had a custom shaft made. The shaft work is worth $175 alone. I did pretty well on the trade deal and I don't really want to work at selling a used entry level cue for more than it cost new...

This cue needs nothing. It plays great and looks very clean. it is a great American name, not imported from China as so many alternatives will be.

Thank you for the suggestions and offers everyone. Although I do like the simple looks of a sneaky pete, I am just going to get the hxt30 w/o upgrades. It seems to be alot of bang for your buck at $80/shipped (kamui black tip, low deflection shaft mumbo jumbo, and a cheap case). I'll let you guys know when the regret hits me, if it does.


I'm buying an entry level, so I'd rather buy low now and spend extra later on when I know exactly what I want.
