The Philippines will once again host the World Cup of Pool. This will be the third consecutive year of the tournament in the country otherwise known as the billiards capital of the world. The 2011 World Cup of Pool will be held from September 6 to 11 and the Block Atrium of SM City North EDSA Mall in Manila will be its venue.
There will be 32 teams competing for the $60,000 top prize of the total $250,000 prize fund, the majority coming from Europe and Asia. Some of the popular pairs include Darren Appleton & Chris Melling of England, Mika Immonen & Petri Makkonen of Finland and Ralf Souquet & Thorsten Hohmann of Germany. Even Austria’s Jasmin Ouschan, who won the 2010 Women’s World 10-Ball Championship also held in the Philippines, is set to join the competition with her partner, Mario He. Because the Philippines will be hosting the event, there would be two teams representing the country and they would be Dennis Orcollo & Ronnie Alcano and Efren Reyes & Francisco Bustamante.
Fu Jianbo and Li Hewen of China are expected to defend their title which they have snatched from the grasps of the Philippines’ very own Dennis Orcollo and Roberto Gomez last year. In 2007, the duo also took home the World Cup of Pool crown against Finland’s Immonen and Juva in Netherlands.
Here’s to wishing good luck to the Philippine pride Dennis Orcollo & Ronnie Alcano and Efren Reyes & Francisco Bustamante. Own the competition, you guys. Go Philippines.
