Survival - The Newbie Survival GuideSurvival

Surviving the coming events of December 21, 2012 is not necessarily like surviving other natural or man-made disasters. You and your family will have to be more proactive and assume more preemptive strategies for long-term or even permanent survival. You need to realize that if this happens, this will be a global event that will effect each and every living thing on the planet. Food and clean water will be scarce and public utilities will be nonexistent. The world governments can not and will not be able to assist in your continuing well-being and you will more or less be on your own.

The purpose of this article is to assist and provide you with the basic necessary resources and information to help you prepare for, and survive a long-term global disaster.
Where Do You Start Your Survival Education?

December 212012

For beginners interested in understanding the basics of December 21, 2012 and the Earth changing events, there is unlimited information available from many sources, and advances of knowledge and collaboration have led to a growing number of "watchers" and people that are preparing (Preppers), even though they do not believe something is to happen.

Even so, at least they will be ready, and you should be as well. Even if nothing is to happen then there will be ample number of supplies to last you for the coming years. What if our society does change rapidly, and you aren't prepared?

If you've given any thought to survival, you know that food, water and shelter are the foundation of any long-term survival plan. If you prepare to provide these three items for yourself and family, you will be farther ahead than 90 percent of the public.

There are three essential components to any thoughts of survival: Food, Water, and Shelter. Go for too long without any one of these things and you and your family won't be happy for very long. If you imagine the worst-case scenario, there are timetables for how long you can last without each of these items. So, first, let's address water.

Water...Next to air, the most essential element to human existence.

For your in-home cache or survival stash, you should count on two gallons of water per-person per-day. While this is more water than necessary to survive it ensures water is available for hygiene and cooking as well as drinking. Commercial gallon bottles of filtered/purified water often carry expiration dates two years after the bottling date. A good rotation program is necessary to ensure your supply of water remains fresh and drinkable.

Food...Who's Hungry?

You may be able to survive a few weeks or even a month without food, but without it, you will become weak, susceptible to illness, dizzy and unable to perform survival-related tasks. Water may be more critical to short-term survival, but you will need every ounce of energy to get out of harms way, that is why food is also just as important.

Will a months worth of food be enough? Or do you need a year's worth? I can't can't tell you what's best in your situation, but I suggest that two weeks or more is the minimum for anyone in any of these potential survival situations.

It is estimated that due to most grocery stores' inventory and cost control methods, the majority only carry 3 to 5 days worth off supplies on their shelves. This means that if you don't get it fast, there won't be anything left if the supply chains break down. Imagine what you will do to feed your family when you run out of food...I don't know what I would do...but it wont be pretty. Stock up, huh?

And last...but not the least important to survival...Shelter.

While many will find that their home, friend's apartment or relative's house is the easiest and most cost-effective safe house, the ultimate safe house or survival retreat would be a second residence located in a very rural location. But when the red flags go up, you can evacuate to a safe house fully stocked with everything you need for self sufficiency.

Be aware that your home has now become your lifeline. If your home isn't threatened by a natural disaster, then stay put as long as you can and avoid confrontation and lay low. There will be others that haven't prepared...and they will be coming for what you have. Good people can turn into savage beasts when confronted with the pain of starvation and dehydration. Keep your loved ones safe and guard them. I don't condone excessive force, but it's safe to say that owning a semi-automatic pistol will stop any would-be thief from stealing any of your essentials that you need to live...So is it going to be you, or them?
