60" Paul Sumrall Custom Aboyna Burl / Ebony / Ivory / Leather For Sale OBO!!! - 05-24-2013, 02:35 PM

I have a very nice Custom Paul Sumrall Cue for sale for $750 SOLD!!!

- Cue and shaft are in Excellent condition, straight, no dings, dents, or scratches. No Shaft blueing and smooth as silk.

- Gorgeous Aboyna Burl Buttcap, 4 razor sharp points
- Ebony Butt and Forearm
- Signed in gold
- Ivory Half Joint
- Black textured Leather Wrap section
- 3/8x10 Pin
- I believe it is a Triangle tip on it (I can change the tip to buyers preference at no charge)
- Total cue length is 60" (from bumper to tip)
- Shaft and butt are each 30"
- Shaft weight is 3.9oz
- Shaft is extremely high grade maple with very tight straight grain, which looks to be about 18-20 rings per inch (Shaft is .8450" at the joint, so it is hard to get a completely accurate ring count). There is zero run-off on the center grain ring from the joint to the tip. That with the ring count puts the shaft wood in the top tier of all Maple shaft wood)
- Butt weighs exactly 14.2oz with no weight bolt. Weight bolt can be added up to an additional 1.1oz, making the weight obtainable between 18.1oz - 19.2oz.
- Balance is forward at about 20" (about 3.5" above the top of the wrap)
- Shaft diameter at the top on the 1" Ferrule is .4960" or 12.60mm.

I am willing to entertain trades for custom cue only (up or down), and on certain Limited or Special Edition Predator cues. I MUST be the one making out better than normal on all trades though!

I've known Paul a while & I've had the pleasure of owning & selling a few of his cues & I still have the Cocobola, Ivory jointed, Holly 4ptr. that he built special for me in 2010.
Mr. Sumrall tends to build excellent playing custom cues that are more affordable for players.
I agree that is closer to his prices, especially with only 1 shaft & no inlays.

IMHO, I think all new players type or 4 pt. custom cues with linen or a leather wrap from any cue builder should not cost over $500 with any joint & 1 very nice ivory or micarta ferrule shaft & a 13mm. med. brown Kamui.

But, nonetheless GLWYS.

Instead of commenting on his price and then trying to soften it up with putting GLWYS in caps maybe you should just not comment at all eh?

Believe it or not his price is not really out of line. Here is my 4 pointer below. Granted mine had a 2nd shaft and an ivory joint but if I were to sell it today it might sell for something close to a bit more than his price.

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=186430

Pauls cues are known for how well they hit and are contructed...sometimes these so called experts amaze me. I am assuming OP accidentally priced it a bit low to begin with...nothing wrong with catching an error and pricing an item correctly. If it doesn't sell he may or may not lower it to which at the end of the day is his decision.

Explain why you think this type of cue should not cost over 500.00.

Offence taken.. But thanks for your genuine concern of the price I've chosen to offer MY cue up for sale.

Price has been dropped. The joint is an Ivory joint, and it has a Barringer Milk-Dud tip on it.

I have to disagree with you here. Im of them opinion that ANY quality built, basic players custom cue should AT LEAST have a starting price point of about $350. Minimum. The price should go up from there with many factors included, such as wood used, points, rings, inlays, inlay material, CNC?, handle (wrapless, linen, leather [type of leather]), quality of the Shaft wood used, joint and ferrule used, number of shafts included, custom matching Joint Protectors?, length of shaft and butt (60" cues are a little harder to come by than a 58" or 59").
After that, is the cue used or brand new (NEVER chalked or hit a ball once it left its maker). If used, what condition? Has it been reconditioned?
Lastly, and this is probably what vastly affects the price of two very similar cues, who made it?

Using my personal opinion as to how I value a cue, I think I have this cue priced very fairly.....
The cue does not have any ring work (except at the joint on both the butt and shaft side), Leather is not of the Exotic variety, no inlays, 1-shaft, no custom JP's, and it has been used before.
It does have a leather wrap, 4 spliced Aboyna Burl Points, points are sharp and even, Aboyna Burl Butt cap (fairly rare on a butt cap), Ivory half joint, 30" butt and 30" shaft (60" cue overall), Excellent quality shaft wood, cue is in near mint condition (I cannot point to a dent, scratch, ding. Zero Blueing of the shaft..), and was made by a quality cuemaker with a strong following of those that have played with Paul's cues or at least tried one out before.

I would like to see our quality custom cue makers get a fair price for their effort and labor. They are producing a product (quality custom cues) that I (we) want, and cannot make for myself (nor do I wish to even think about taking the time to do even if I could). Part of that begins with keeping their resale value up, and not underselling their cues on the used market. Now, dont get me wrong, I fully realize a lot of times people simply need to unload a cue or two fast for whatever reason (usually economic anymore with our anemic economy). That fine and understandable, but too many times the final selling price is posted publicly for ALL to see. That needs to change, because in today's information era, all that a future prospective buyer needs to do is run a google search to see what that price was. The factors that led to that undervalued selling price are then never taken into consideration, so THAT price then becomes the starting point for buyer negotiations. You then end up where we are now in the current, dismal cue market, with sellers not being able to sell fairly priced cues until they are willing to practically give them away... Cues that are sold for under the starting list price, or less than the actual value should be private and keep between the 2 parties involved.

I am very fortunate that I do not need to "give" my cue(s) away for pennies on the dollar. I love quality custom cues (its an addiction actually, and most of you know exactly what im talking about), and buy and sell cues to see and try out different types of cues. I love talking pool to people, and love when I can add to a conversation about this or that custom cue.

okay maybe I shouldn't comment on your price bcoz it's none of my business, just happened to see the same cue for sale at a much lower price last month. I'm not sure if this cue is from that owner, though. My apologies if my comment offence you, sir.AND GLWYS

Personally, I've tried a lot of cues from ALOT of cue makers, and have never been disappointed in one of Paul's.one of the players I've always regretted selling in 2005, was from him. I agree with the seller (and the logic behind it), and I honestly don't think he's too out of line. If it was a southwest, Klein, hunter, searing or any number of other top cue makers that have the fastest resales out there would this even be a discussion? If it was wrapless I'd already own it just based on past personal experience. It's a great cue for the money, and I haven't seen many 60in cues from the shop. I may overlook the wrap if I keep looking at that wood much longer....

Unless a matching set was made, I'm the proud current owner of this Sumrall majestic wand. I won it off eBay just yesterday. I will ask Paul to make an addt'l matching shaft, but also send over a couple 30" Predator blanks (314-2 and Z2) to be fitted. Well worth the money I paid for it IMO.

Thanks,

Taemin

Hi,
Yes, this is the cue you won off of ebay yesterday. I cannot say enough as to how well the cue plays. I went back and forth as to keeping it for myself or not. The solid maple shaft is excellent, but I (like yourself I believe) prefer a Predator shaft (worked 314-2, Kamui Black Hard tip) and had one to try out on the Sumrall and really really liked it. Its actually the first cue Ive had that gave a serious run at becoming my main player over my Samsara (my baby).

Just a little advice to buyers out there:
If you commit to purchasing a cue from someone, make the payment expeditiously please. If you cannot make the agreed upon payment right away, for whatever reason, at least let the seller know, and that you have every intention on following through with the transaction and in what time frame.
I had two, TWO buyers before Taemin, who committed to purchasing the Sumrall and then didnt make the agreed upon payment. I guess I can understand if something happened or you just decided to change your mind, fine, whatever (you still should let the seller know, regardless), but then to come back at ME and be mad that I "sold the cue out from under me [you]"! Really?!? All you had to do is let me know you still wanted it, and I would have gladly held it for you. I am not a mind reader that knows you had to wait until you got paid on Friday before you could make the payment, after you agreed to the purchase on Tuesday (one of their story's). I had another buyer who made a competitive offer (which was slightly lower than the other offers), that I decided to take because I had not heard back from either of the other perspective buyers (after I sent a polite email inquiring about it and heard nothing back until I posted that it was now sold). I fully believe in a gentleman's agreement, and will always hold my end of it up, but the buyer has a duty to uphold also, and the deal isnt solidified until (cleared) payment is received.. Sorry..
