This is a poster made from a painting by one of the Twins, whom some may remember. I'm guessing about 1977. Any ideas?Name: IMG_0453.jpg

Were you interested in knowing the exact year? Here is a post about a similar poster by the Birkbeck twins:
http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=261214
I think they were also known for their portraits of race horses. See http://articles.philly.com/1988-05-2...gs-watercolors for an article about them.

I think all of those players were playing in the mid-80s.

I see the nine ball rack and balls in the middle of the poster , but I also see Mike Zuglan, , Dick Lane and Tom Jennings.
In 1977 Jennings beat Lane for the straight pool championship, I tried to see if there was a list of the other contestants but could not find one.
I'm pretty sure there was a year or maybe even two, that most of the top players boycotted the event, that might explain why some of the players on the poster are on there.
Without knowing how many were printed , any price you pay for it over about 60.00 or 80.00 is gambling.
Most of the cost of printing comes before the actual copies are made , so it stands to reason they would not pay all that money for negatives , plates and the other up front costs and only have 100 or so printed , probably more like 500 or 1000, maybe more.
Then you always have the original plates and negatives , so there is nothing from stopping someone from printing as many as they want.
It's a nice piece of billiard art but I can't imagine anyone paying more than 100.00 and that would have to be someone who just loved it and didn't care about resale value.
It might be worth a little more if it was a limited edition and the plates and negatives were destroyed.
Even then , there is nothing to stop someone from printing them again in the future if they did become popular.
I wonder why they put one of the two weakest players top center?
Maybe these guys were just their favorites?

No Jim Rempe? Steve Mizerak? I heard somewhere that there were actually people playing pool outside the US in the '70s, also...
