There is a good chance that if you do own cues for a while that you will find out it can make a world of difference where the cue was made and what its made of.......
Just because you don't know the difference isn't our fault...

McDermott D model or a used custom cue with a 3/8x 10 pin.

And I don't agree that 90% of the hit is in the tip, the tip is about 1% of the total mass of the cue.
Do the math,
Ferrule and shafts can make a ton of difference.. Put your favorite tip on a shaft you don't like or a cue that vibrates or has a buzz in it.
A good tip will make zero difference ....
Cut a tip off , you can still shoot if you are hitting center of cue ball.
What can just a tip do,, not much......

The joint makes a big difference too.

I had a customer bring in newer McDermott in for repairs, the butt sleeve was broke flush with the bottom of the wrap.
This cue wasn't a star or a lucky...
The handle and but sleeve was made of plastic, the weight bolt was 8.5 OZ

That changed my mind about any newer McDermott and what its actually worth.
A used D model McDermott is normally a good cue ....
