He deserves it. Great player, 5 ranking titles which puts him past players like Ding Junhui, Mark Selby and Stephen Maguire who are supposed be that much better.

If he could just get his cue ball under control he'd be a tough, tough player. He's played some of the best shots I've ever seen.

Congratulations to Neil Robertson. It was one of those rare finals where I wasn't rooting for or against either player.


I think Neil is undefeated in ranking finals.

Someone has to be number one for the seeding, otherwise someone will have to get a bye all year long. At the end of the day, it's the best of whoever is playing on tour and currently John Higgins is not playing on tour thus, Neil is the #1 player.

And if you just leave John Higgins at #1 spot but he doesn't play, he won't accrue ranking points, which means he will lose his spot on the provisional rankings anyways after the first tournament.

It's a touchy situation though. If John is found innocent somehow then the News of the World will have costed him his ranking and guaranteed income, which I don't doubt would lead to a major lawsuit.
