Mosconi Cup - An American Fan's Viewpoint

I wrote this for Snookered magazine, but they already had a Mosconi Cup feature and they decided not to use it. Didn't want it to go to waste. It was written before the Charlie Williams captaincy announcement...

After many months of fans and players stressing over their respective points lists, the names of the players who will represent their home countries have been announced for the 2011 Mosconi Cup. As a fan of the game, I thought I would give you an American fan's perspective...

The ABP and the state of pool

So, I have been wracking my brain recently trying to figure out what it is about this ABP boycott that irks me so much. I think it is wrong on a number of different levels, but there was something bigger that bothered me and I couldn't put my finger on it. I think I have figured it out though.

Professional Pool is in a tough place right now. It has been for quite some time though. It just seems to be getting worse and worse. The economy is partly to blame, but the various people involved...

Random Thoughts from the World 8-Ball Championship

Glad to be home from a loooong trip to the World 8-Ball Championship in UAE and then the Masters in Virginia. Made some random notes about the UAE trip and thought I would share them here...

It must be true, I read it online

It never ceases to amaze me what is said and passed off as the truth online.

Now most people know that there are three major billiards magazines out there and they all have websites.

I am used to one of them proudly proclaiming traffic stats that are so far from the truth that is laughable, but this note isn't about that magazine.

I took a look this weekend at the Media Guide from Pool and Billiard magazine. (poolmag.com) They state on their media guide...

WPBA San Diego Classic

Still recovering from the trip to Alpine California for the WPBA San Diego Classic.

What a great show. The three days I spent there was the longest I have been at a Classic Tour event and it is very interesting to see how the level of play rises from day one to day three.

Although a couple of players ran out of gas late on day three, the majority of the players still in the running took their game to a different level.
